Residency for Tuition Purposes

The place you call your permanent home helps determine how much you pay for tuition at CCC. Arizona law calls your permanent home your domicile. It is the place you consider your main home and plan to return to when you temporarily leave or live elsewhere.

CCC follows Arizona law and policies set by the CCC District Governing Board when deciding which tuition rate a student qualifies for. CCC reviews your residency information when you apply based off your documents that show your identity, permanent home, and citizenship or immigration status.

Your CCC residency status is used only to determine your tuition rate. It may be different from your residency status at another college or residency for other legal processes. We have several residency types, including:

• Resident: In-District

  • You have established residency in Coconino County for at least 12 consecutive months before the first day of classes.
 

• Resident: Out-of-District

  • You have established residency in Arizona, but outside Coconino County, for at least 12 consecutive months before the first day of classes.
 
• Non-Resident
  • 
Your domicile (permanent home) is in a state or country outside Arizona; or
  • You live in Arizona but you are not a citizen or legal permanent resident. Explore options for undocumented students
• Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE)

  • You do not live in Arizona, but are a resident of a state that participates in WUE, a tuition exhange program.

These are the main categories. Some students qualify for a different rate because of their education, employment, military service, family situation or another exception.

1. Complete your CCC application. Answer all residency questions.
2. Check your personal email. CCC will send your residency status or ask you for more documents.
3. Submit any requested documents. Use CCC’s Secure Upload site to protect your personal information.
4. Review your status. If you think it is incorrect, you may ask CCC to review it for the current term.

Under Arizona Proposition 308, some undocumented students and recipients of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) may qualify for in-state tuition and certain types of state or college financial aid. Eligibility is based on Arizona high school attendance and graduation requirements, not immigration status alone.

Conforme a la Proposición 308 de Arizona, algunos estudiantes indocumentados y beneficiarios de la Acción Diferida para los Llegados en la Infancia (DACA, por sus siglas en inglés) pueden calificar para la matrícula estatal y ciertos tipos de ayuda financiera estatal o universitaria. La elegibilidad se basa en los requisitos de asistencia y graduación de una escuela secundaria de Arizona, no únicamente en el estatus migratorio.
