Starting college can feel overwhelming, especially if you are not sure where to begin or what questions to even ask. That is exactly what admissions advisors are here for.
If you have not yet applied to CCC, or if you are still exploring whether CCC is the right fit for you, an admissions advisor is your first point of contact. They will walk you through the process, answer your questions, and help you take the next step at your own pace.
Admission Advisors vs. Academic Advisors
This is one of the most common points of confusion for new students, so here is a simple way to think about it.

Whether you are a first-time college student, a returning student, a high school student exploring Early College programs, or someone changing careers, an admissions advisor can help you:
- Understand your options at CCC and which programs might be a good fit.
- Walk through the application process step by step.
- Identify what documents you need to submit and how to submit them.
- Understand residency, placement, and tuition.
- Connect you to the right next step once your application is complete
Our admissions advisors do not receive commissions, bonuses, or incentive payments for enrollments. Their job is simply to help you figure out if and how CCC can work for you.
Before you meet with an Admission advisor
You do not need to have anything prepared to speak with an admissions advisor. They are here to help you figure out where to start. If you are ready to move forward with an application, it helps to have:
- A valid state-issued photo ID
- Your high school transcript or GED documentation, if available
- Transcripts from any colleges you have previously attended, if applicable
- A general sense of your goals, whether that is a specific career, a degree, transfer, or simply exploring your options
What Happens After you apply?
Once your admissions process is complete, you will receive an email at your CCC student email address with a link to schedule your first appointment with an academic advisor. That advisor will help you build an educational plan, select your first courses, and connect you to campus resources.
First-time college students at CCC are required to meet with an academic advisor during their first semester as part of the Essential Advising program. This appointment helps make sure you are on the right pathway from the start.

- What is the difference between an admission advisor and an academic advisor?
Admissions advisors help prospective and newly applying students navigate the process of getting into CCC. Academic advisors help enrolled students plan their coursework, choose programs, and prepare for transfer or graduation. You will work with an admissions advisor first, and then transition to an academic advisor once your admissions process is complete.
- Do I need to have everything figured out before I talk to an admissions advisor?
No. Admissions advisors are here to help you explore your options, not just process paperwork. If you are unsure whether CCC is right for you or what program you want to pursue, that is a perfectly good reason to schedule an appointment.
- I already applied. Whom do I contact now?
Once your application is submitted, the admissions and enrollment staff will review it within two business days. You will receive an email at your personal email with admissions next steps. - Can I just walk in, or do I need an appointment?
Appointments are recommended to ensure you get dedicated time with an advisor. However, drops-in can often be accommodated.
