Tax forms & 1098-T
Accessing Tax Forms
CCC is required to provide relvant tax information to students every year they are enrolled. The IRS Form 1098-T is a tuition statement issued to students who have tax-reportable education transactions during the tax year.
The form reports information about payments for qualified tuition and related expenses during a calendar year, January 1 through December 31. You or the person who claims you as a dependent may use the information when determining whether you qualify for an education tax benefit on your federal taxes. Receiving a 1098-T does not mean you automatically qualify for a tax credit.
CCC cannot provide individual tax advice. Use IRS resources or talk with a qualified tax professional if you have questions about your tax return.
The 1098-T Is a tax form, not a bill.
Receiving one does not mean you owe money to CCC.
Getting Your 1098-T
Who Gets a 1098-T?
1098-Ts are issued to most students. If you are a college student paying tuition, you will likely receive a Form 1098-T. The IRS does not require CCC to file Form 1098-T for non-US residents. However, CCC cannot say for sure which foreign students are U.S. residents and is required to provide a 1098-T to resident alien students upon request. Therefore, 1098-T forms are provided to all students who have a reportable transaction, including foreign or undocumented students who may or may not be eligible for an education tax benefit.
CCC uses two methods to deliver Form 1098-T to you. You can opt-in to electronic delivery, or you can have it mailed to your address on file.

When Will My 1098-T Be Available?
Online
Your 1098-T form will be posted in the online portal sometime beween January 1 and February 1 for the previous calendar year. Once it is posted, it stays in the portal with other previous tax years.
By Mail
The Form 1098-T is mailed on or before February 1 for the previous calendar year. For example, the 2025 1098-T will be sent by mail by February 1, 2026.
Make sure CCC has your current mailing address before tax forms are prepared.
Why Didn't I Receive a 1098-T?
You may not receive a Form 1098-T if:
- CCC does not have a valid mailing address for you;
- Your coursework was not for academic credit; or
- All amounts CCC would report on the form are zero, such as when all classes were dropped during the 100% refund period.
Federal regulations also contain specific exceptions to when colleges are required to provide Form 1098-T. Contact Student Accounts if you believe you should have received one but did not.
Why Is CCC Asking for My Social Security Number or ITIN?
Federal tax reporting requires CCC to have your correct Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN). For most students, this is a Social Security number (SSN). Some students may instead have an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).
If CCC does not have this information, you may be asked to complete IRS Form W-9S, aRequest for Student’s or Borrower’s Taxpayer Identification Number and Certification.
Students use this form to:
- give their Social Security number (SSN) or individual taxpayer identification number (ITIN) to a college or a lender of a student loan
- if applicable, certify that the proceeds of a loan are being used, or will be used, solely to pay for qualified higher education expenses.
The IRS may impose a penalty of up to $50 if you are required to provide a correct SSN or ITIN and fail to do so without reasonable cause.
What is Included on the 1098-T?
Not every charge on your CCC account is treated the same way for tax reporting.
CCC’s current tax guidance identifies tuition, technology fees, and class fees as qualified charges for its reporting. Items such as payment-plan fees, late fees, parking fees or fines, and bus pass fees are not treated as qualified tuition and related expenses in CCC’s reporting.
Form 1098-T displays the amount of Qualified Tuition and Related Expenses (QTRE) you paid, up to the cost of qualified eligible tuition expenses, during the reporting year, January 1 to December 31. Each numbered box on the form represents a different category.
- Box 1 shows the total Payments Received from any source (including financial aid, scholarships, exemptions, and third-party arrangements) for QTRE. This amount is reduced by reimbursements or refunds issued.
- Box 4 shows an adjustment made for a prior year for QTRE that was reported on a prior year Form 1098-T.
- Box 5 reports Scholarships or Grants administered and processed.
- Box 6 shows adjustments to Scholarships or Grants for a prior year.
- Box 7 will be checked if the amount in Box 1 includes amounts for an academic period beginning January – March of the next reporting year. Example: You register and pay for Spring 2027 classes during 2026.
- Box 8 shows whether you are considered to be carrying at least one-half of the normal full-time workload for your course of study.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Why Doesn't My 1098-T Match What I Paid?
The number in Box 1 may be different from the total amount of money you paid CCC during the year.
CCC can only report qualifying payments up to the amount of eligible charges for the calendar year. Refunds, reductions in charges, enrollment changes, and the timing of payments can also affect what appears on the form.
- Why Are Spring Classes on My 1098-T for the Previous Year?
Form 1098-T is based on the calendar year, not the academic year.
For example, if you register and make qualifying payments for spring classes before December 31, those amounts may appear on the 1098-T for that calendar year even though the classes begin the following year.
When Box 1 includes qualifying amounts for an academic period beginning in January through March of the following year, Box 7 is checked.
- Do I Send My 1098-T With My Tax Return?
No. CCC sends the required 1098-T information to the IRS electronically. Keep your copy for your records and use it when preparing your taxes.
The IRS recommends keeping the documents you used to determine whether you qualify for an education credit.
- Can CCC Tell Me Whether I Qualify for a Tax Credit?
CCC can help you with questions about the information reported on your 1098-T or how to access the form, but CCC cannot provide individual tax advice.
For questions about whether you qualify for an education tax credit or how to report education expenses on your tax return, use IRS resources or consult a qualified tax professional.
